Karl L. Oldenburg, 41 of Gaylord, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 29, 2013 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Born on July 5, 1972 in Detroit, Karl was the son of William and Carol (Garschagen) Oldenburg. Karl was a 1990 graduate of Lee M. Thurston High School in Redford. He attended the University of Michigan Dearborn Campus and later Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant where he received bachelor’s degrees in Earth Science with a concentration on Meteorology and in Geography. Karl worked as a merchandiser for several companies including Acosta, Premier, HDA and NVS. He was also the owner of Shakes n’ Such Parlor & Café in Waters. An avid and well known area bowler, Karl bowled several nights a week at the Gaylord Bowling Center. He had received recognition for three perfect 300 games and an 800 series. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, singing karaoke, playing cards and horseshoes. Growing up, he enjoyed spending summers in Lewiston. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Karl was a member of Gaylord Eagles Aerie #1825. On March 2, 1996 Karl married Heather Terzano and she survives. Also surviving are his children, William Harold, Emily Nicole, Erik Karl and Sarah Paige Oldenburg, all at home; his mother, Carol Oldenburg of Redford; a sister, Kerry Kornacki of Redford; a brother, Alan Oldenburg of Redford; his mother-in-law, Kimberly Terzano of Detroit; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Terzano of Wyoming, MI; one niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Oldenburg in 1996. Visitation for Karl will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Gaylord Community Funeral Home, 850 N. Center Avenue. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 215 South Center Avenue in Gaylord with Rev. John Naile officiating. Gaylord Eagles, Aerie #1825 will also participate. Visitation will begin at the church at 12:00 noon on Saturday. A celebration gathering Gaylord Bowling Center will follow the service. Memorial contributions to his family may be made through an account at Northwestern Bank. Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home.
