June Virginia Cummings, 95 of Gaylord, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018 at home.
Born in Hamburg, Wells County, North Dakota on June 1, 1923, she was the daughter of Julius and Mary (Affeldt) Kehn. After spending her early years in North Dakota, the family moved to the Flint area where June spent much of her youth.
June met her future husband, Fred Cummings in Flint and they were married there on October 31, 1942. During World War II June helped in the war effort by working at General Motors in tank production. In 1969 Fred and June moved to Manistique, MI where they purchased a restaurant, the Three Mile Supper Club which they operated for a number of years.
After selling the restaurant they lived in Ionia and Gaylord before moving back to Manistique. Fred passed away in 1995 and shortly after, June returned to Gaylord to live near her family.
June enjoyed flowers, playing cards and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed cooking and holiday gatherings. She also enjoyed fishing and big game hunting.
Surviving are her daughters, Diane (Ralph) Inman and Dolores “Dee” Humphrey, both of Gaylord; her grandchildren, Michael (Patricia Sprague) Inman and Dawn Marcum; great grandchildren, Caresse Inman and Austin Loper and a great, great grandson, Matthew Hamrick. She was preceded in death by her parents; six siblings; a grandson, Eric Inman and a son-in-law, Bud Humphrey.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Vanderbilt.
