Julia L. Orr

Julia Leath Orr, 95, died peacefully on April 25, 2015 with her family at her side.

Julia was originally from Indiana, but lived her last 15 years in Northern Michigan. Prior to that she was a regular summer visitor who particularly enjoyed the birds and flowers of this area. She was an expert seamstress who made many of her family’s clothes. She also enjoyed knitting and making braided rugs. Until her eyesight declined, she loved to read and do crosswords. She remained a tough opponent at cards with the help of large print cards. She was an encyclopedia of historical facts, another one of her interests.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Orr, and her four siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret A. Orr M.D. of Harbor Springs and many nieces and nephews.

For the last eleven years, Julia lived at Autumn Joy AFC. The owners, John Caron and Jeff Prell, the staff and the other residents made her last years some of her happiest. For that reason, Julia’s family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Autumn Joy, 09020 Upper Bay Shore Road, Charlevoix, MI 49720 so that others may have their lives similarly blessed.
