John Bones, 88 of Gaylord, Michigan, previously of Birmingham, passed away peacefully at his Michaywe home, Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
John was born on July 13, 1929 in Detroit, son of William L. and Charlotte J. Bones. John was a 1947 graduate of Baldwin High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in 1951 from Michigan State University and was very active in Psi Upsilon fraternity.
John went on to serve in the United States Army as part of the Counter Intelligence Corp from 1951 to 1953. Afterwards, John spent much of his professional life building and presiding over his company, Technical Metals.
John attended First Presbyterian Church in Gaylord. He enjoyed family gatherings and was an avid tennis player, even into his senior years. John adored the outdoors and found a passion for hunting pheasant. He enjoyed golf and never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Michigan State Spartans.
John is survived by his children: John (Cyndi Logli), Susan (Jim) Nugent, and Peter (Andrea O’Banion). He was a beloved “Grampy” to his grandchildren: Taylor Bones, Charlotte Nugent, Brooke Bones, Austin Nugent, Cory Bones, Ashley Bones, Alyssa Bones; and great-grandchildren, Aerro Nugent and Gwenivere Bones.
John is also survived by his wife, Gail, and his stepfamily: Richard Ewing and wife Tracy; William Ewing and children, Heather and Nichlaus; and Rebecca Watters, husband Jay, and children, Kimberley, Cheyenne, and Ronin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Tjaarda, his son, Stevens Bones (Ginger Jones), and his brother, William “Bill” Bones.
Services will be held Saturday, November 4th, at the First Presbyterian Church of Gaylord. Visitation will be 10:30 – 11:30 AM, with a memorial service at 11:30 AM. If desired, donations may be made to Otsego County Animal Shelter or the charity of your choice.
