John H. Brender, 72, of Petoskey, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019 at home. Born August 10, 1946, in Saginaw, he was the son of Dr. Friedrich and Antoinette Brender. He was raised in Frankenmuth.
John went to Ferris State Collge, graduating in 1969. He was proud to be a member of the football team from 1967 – 1969. In the 1968 season, he was starting offensive center and was a key member to the success of the only undefeated season in Ferris State football history. He was named on several all-opponent teams as the best player they played. For many years, John worked for the State of Michigan as a systems analyst. He loved golfing,
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen of 19 years; his sister, Charlotte (Jerry) Greenlee of Lake City; his brothers, Fred (Carole) Brender of Flushing and Tom (Biggi) Brender of Cordele, GA and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elizabeth Schneider.
A memorial service will take place at a later date. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
