John Mistura Jr.

John Mistura Jr., 77 of Alanson, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.

Born in Detroit on June 24, 1939, John was the son of John Sr. and Helen (Soyk) Mistura.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1963.  After his military service, John worked for over 25 years at New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail and Amtrak.  First a brakeman, John eventually became a conductor.  After leaving the railroad in the early 1980’s he owned John’s Bait & Tackle in Detroit at the corner of Ford and 25th Streets for ten years.  Recently he moved to Alanson.

John and his wife, Elizabeth (Robertson) Mistura were married on November 1, 1967.  She survives.  Also surviving are his children, Kristen Mistura and Michael Mistura, both of Alanson; grandchildren, Jessica, Darlene, Kathleen, John and Jeffrey; great grandchildren, James, Alexis, Kobi and Colten; a brother, Tom Mistura; sisters, Dorothy Trask and Patsy Soyk and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Louie Mistura; a son, Jeffrey Alan and a grandson, Jeremy.

Committal services with military honors will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
