Joel G. Petz, 70 of Gaylord, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.

Born in Northville, MI on April 15, 1945, Joel was the son of William and Barbara (Phillips) Petz.

Joel proudly served in the U.S. Navy while fighting for his country in the Vietnam War. After 26 years, he retired from G.T.E. Telephone Company. He and Lyn attended New Life Church in Gaylord. He loved his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. He was a member of the Gaylord Eagles. Winters were spent in Astor, FL for several years where he was involved in the V.F.W.

Joel is survived by Lyn, his wife of 47 years; two children, Tammy (Chris) Wood of Rotonda West, FL and Joel Petz II of Muskegon; four grandchildren, Tara, Autumn, Craig and Zach; one great-grandson, Ethan; his brother, Phil (Lisa) Petz of Rogers City; two sisters, Barb (Tom) Kreager of New Haven, IN and Jennifer (Randy) Smolinski of Rogers City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Peg Leszinske.

Per Joel’s wishes, his body was donated to The University of Michigan Donation Program. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Gaylord Eagles. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or to Feed America. Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 850 North Center Avenue in Gaylord.
