Joe Ann Smith, 76 of Vanderbilt, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Otsego Memorial Hospital.
Born on April 12, 1940 in Sequachie, TN, she was the daughter of Joseph Andrew and Vergie Louise (Layne) Curtis.
After living for many years in Brighton, Joe Ann and her husband, Carl, moved to Vanderbilt in 1989. Lovingly known by many as Jo-Lynn, she was the owner and operator of Jo-Lynn’s Country Shack in Vanderbilt.
Joe Ann was a dedicated, hardworking and headstrong woman who will be missed by many. She loved the outdoors, especially the nature trails that went through her property.
She was an avid gardener who enjoyed spending countless hours tending to her many flower gardens. She also loved bird watching, always making sure they never went hungry.
Joe Ann is survived by her husband, Carl W. Smith; her children, Linda (Steve) Schmidt of Neshkoro, WI, Robert Holmes of Waters and Tresha Smith Poirier of Vanderbilt; her stepchildren, David Smith, Carl (Kim) Smith Jr., Tina (Buddy) Holt, Kevin (Anna) Smith and Michael (Mary) Smith all of Howell; her son-in-law, Vence Poirier of Vanderbilt; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as her nieces, nephews, in-laws, other extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by two children, Kristana Lee and Gary Lynn and her siblings.
Joe Ann’s family will visit with friends from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place in the spring at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Vanderbilt.
