Joan L. Weld

Joan Lee Weld, 86 of Harbor Springs, passed away at home on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.

Born in St Joseph, Michigan on February 27, 1932, Joan was the daughter of Don and Josephine (Bernhard) Abbott.

Married to Elmer John Weld on August 16, 1952, the couple lived in the metro Detroit area for many years where Joan worked as a stenographer and later as a secretary for family friends at Air Design in Southfield.

Joan and her family enjoyed their cottage at Crystal Lake for many years.  In retirement Joan and Elmer moved to Harbor Springs.

Joan enjoyed reading and watching movies.  She was also an excellent seamstress.  When the family was young they enjoyed camping.  In addition to enjoying the family cottage, Joan and Elmer enjoyed building their home together.  She will be remembered by her family and friends for her smile and her laughter.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer John Weld.  Surviving are her children, Gregory (Laura) Weld, Cynthia (John) VanBelle, Terese (William) Wallis, Diane (James) Gracy, Jennifer (Michael) McCullen, and Bradley (Patty) Weld; 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a grandson, Luke and two brothers.

A memorial gathering will be held 12:00 noon Sunday, September 30, 2018 at the home of her daughter, Diane, 4349 LaCount Rd, Harbor Springs, MI  49740
