It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, uncle, brother and papa. Jerry Richard Madsen passed away from a heart attack on December 29, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents Howard & Betty Madsen, his sisters Sherrie Cole, & Shirley Hayes.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 37 years Jackie, son Craig (Connie), daughter Maryjane, son Jared (Ashley, Braylon & Isaiah), daughter Kate (Chris, Adaline & Christian), and son Lance (Jade). His siblings; Sharon Gabriel, Howard Madsen, Susan Nave, Robert Madsen, & Sandra Moore as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was born on November 26, 1951, in Grayling, MI. Jerry spent all his life in Northern Michigan. He had a smile that would light up any room and a personality that could make conversation with anyone. He spent the bulk of his working years in food sales, traveling to stores across the state of Michigan. After retiring in 2017, he decided his working years weren’t done after all. He took a job working at Lowe’s in the paint department. His exceptional customer service and attention to detail quickly made an impact on all that visited the store.
During his free time, he was a sports enthusiast. He was an avid fan of the Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Tigers, Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Pistons & Detroit Red Wings. He would frequent sporting events and loved playing with his grandchildren. Whether at the ice rink or the ballfields Papa wanted to be there to support them. He enjoyed going for a drive with his wife Jackie, spending time on their back deck together and playing with his dog Bear. He loved the Great Lakes and watching the freighter’s pass by.
Funeral services will take place 3:00 PM Sunday, January 5, 2025, where visitation will begin at 2:00 PM at the Gaylord E-Free Church. Pastor Denny Freeman will officiate. Burial will take place in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
