James J. Platte Sr

James J. Platte Sr., 57 of Gaylord, died at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Born in Dearborn on September 8, 1956, Jim was the son of Lawrence A. and Mary Lou (Plonka) Platte. The family later moved to Gaylord and Jim graduated from Gaylord Community Schools.

He worked in his family’s business, Gaylord Moving and Storage as a driver. Jim also enjoyed driving school bus for Gaylord Community Schools and working with his wife, Diane with their in-home daycare business.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially his grandchildren.

He and his wife, Diane, were married in Gaylord on May 22, 1992, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, James J. Platte Jr. of Gaylord, Jeremy J. Platte of North Carolina, Joseph P. Rogers of Gaylord and Jessica M. (Mark) Wheelis of Gaylord; grandchildren, Ira, Hayley, Mary, Raquel, Abbi, Naython, Ashton, Arie, Dominic, Cameron, Keegan and Joslyn; his parents, Lawrence and Mary Lou Platte of Gaylord; sisters, Roxanne (John) of Iowa and Janet (John) of Saginaw; brothers, Dave (Janice), Mike (Betty) and Larry (Kera) all of Gaylord and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering and visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 850 North Center Avenue.
