James Raymond Cloutier

James Raymond Cloutier, 91 of Boyne City, formerly of Harbor Springs, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025, at home.

James was born on February 23, 1933, in Bridgeport, Michigan, the son of George Sr. and Mary (McLachlan) Cloutier. He was a graduate of St. Francis Catholic High School in Ecorse. James retired after a long career as an engineering technician at General Motors.

On November 16, 1957, he married Carolyn Ann Smith, also of Ecorse. They were happily married for 66 years, until her death on April 6, 2024. James and Carolyn enjoyed golf, tennis, skiing and traveling together. They both also enjoyed Harbor Springs Rams sporting events. James attended Holy Childhood of Jesus Catholic Church in Harbor Springs.

James is survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Mary Cloutier; his brother and sister-in-law, George Jr. and Margaret “Peggy” Cloutier; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Robert Pudvan, Mary Jane and Charles Cloutier, Delores and Lloyd Schinker, Virginia and Jack “Doc” Lutz Sr., Mary Louise and Lowell Peacock, Janette and John Chordash Jr., and Nancy and Donald Hunter; a nephew, Robert Pudvan Jr., and nieces, Patricia Cloutier, Jacqueline “Jackie” Weiher, Denise Stokes and Mary Alice Lutz.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of The Brook Retirement Community in Boyne City and McLaren Hospice of Petoskey staff for their kindness, caring, and support.

 

Per James’s wishes there will be no funeral or memorial service. He will be interred next to Carolyn at Harbor Springs Lakeside Cemetery.
