Helen S. Scott, 85 of Gaylord, passed away at home at Brown’s Adult Foster Care on Tuesday, August 16, 2016

Born in Minneapolis, MN on October 1, 1930, Helen was the daughter of Peter and Ellen (Hamberg) Swedlund.

Helen grew up in Minneapolis where she graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1948.  In 1954 she graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and in 1968 she received her Master’s Degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.

Helen taught school in Ely, Cromwell and Brewster, MN and also in Ames, IA and Kalamazoo, MI where she also worked in a law office.

On July 28, 1956, Helen married Raymond D. Scott in Minneapolis.  In 1966 they moved to Kalamazoo and later, after retiring they moved to Gaylord where they were members of Peace Lutheran Church.

Ray preceded her in death on May 11, 2014.  Surviving are her sons, John D. (Robin) Scott of Plainwell and William P. (Robin) Scott of Statesville, NC; grandsons, Dayton (Crystal) Scott and Daniel (Anastasia) Scott; a great granddaughter, Natalie Scott; and her brother, Harry (Dolly) Swedlund of Rochester, MN.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 19, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Thomas Mammoser officiating.  The family will visit with friends at the church beginning at 10:00 am.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Otsego County Food Pantry or Hospice of Michigan.
