Helen Irene Lucas

Helen Irene Lucas, 80 of Gaylord, passed away at home on Saturday, November 5, 2016.

Born in Rapid River Township on December 29, 1935, Helen was the daughter of Forest and Gladys (Fink) Day.  She lived for many years in Mancelona, several years in Alabama and had lived in Gaylord since 1990.  Helen was well known by her many customers as a waitress in Mancelona, Kalkaska and in Gaylord.

She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her family.  She enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking and shopping.  In retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband, Gary by motorcycle and motorhome.  They enjoyed spending winters at their home in Sebring, FL.  Helen attended Gaylord Evangelical Free Church.

She is survived by Gary, her husband of 34 years; daughters, Debra (Darrell) Anders of Arley, AL and Kathy Smith of Mancelona; a step daughter, Cindy Lou Lucas of Traverse City; step sons, Tony (Mary) Lucas of Lewiston, Gregory (Kandace) Lucas of Melbourne, FL and Steven (Elizabeth) Lucas of New Boston, MI; grandchildren, Guy Clements, Helen Stingley, Trisha Facsko, Amy Nichols, Chelsea Lucas, John Smith, Steven C. Lucas and James Lucas; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandson and two great great grandchildren arriving soon.  She is also survived by sisters, Marion Weisner, Laura Koons and Lydia Sayers; and brothers, Cecil and Marvin Day and their families.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Carl, William, Vercil and Thomas Day; a daughter, Judy Kay Brzenzski and a grandson, Jason Scott Clements.

A memorial service for Helen will be held next June.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Munson Hospice in Grayling.
