Hazel Jenett DuPont, 88 of Johannesburg, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, at McReynolds Hall in Gaylord, with her family by her side.
Born in Vienna Corners on August 26, 1935, she was the daughter of Russell and Cora (Blake) Huff. Hazel was a graduate of Johannesburg High School and a lifelong area resident.
On February 13, 1960, Hazel was married to Charles Walter DuPont in Johannesburg. They built their life together there where they raised their four sons. Charles preceded her in death on June 16, 1995.
Hazel enjoyed family life. She was a loving wife and mom, always very busy raising four active sons. In her spare time, she was an avid bear hunter, which she enjoyed until she was 86 years old. She also enjoyed camping, mushroom picking and anything in the great outdoors. Hazel enjoyed watching westerns on television, with John Wayne and Roy Rogers among her favorites. Her family and friends will remember her for always dressing well and looking her best, and for her wild game cooking, she could even make squirrel taste delicious.
Hazel is survived by her sons, Kirk DuPont of Johannesburg, Charles (Sherilee) DuPont of Lake Ann, Eric DuPont of Johannesburg and Jon DuPont of Atlanta; grandchildren, Meghan DuPont, Catlin House, Dakota Dupont, Brandon DuPont and Jo DuPont; great grandchildren, Sawyer DuPont, Rebel House, Riley House, and Jameson Karas; sisters, Fern (Stanley) Kwapis, and Elaine (Larry) Thompson; a brother, Keith Huff; as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law and a large community of friends.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter Renee DuPont; brothers and sisters, Richard, Jean Donald, James, Karen, and Carol, and several other extended family members.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Heatherton Cemetery on Meridian Line Road, followed by a celebration of her life at the Vienna Township Hall.
Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Michigan Bear Hunters Association, of which she was a longtime member.
