Harvey Leon Charboneau, 79, of Cheboygan, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.

Born in Cheboygan on May 17, 1937, Harvey was the son of Leon and Lillian (Campeau) Charboneau.  After Lillian's death, Leon remarried Antoinette (Toni) Campeau. The family moved to Centerline, MI when he was young.  Later, Harvey met Dolores Smith and they were married in Fraser on July 6, 1960.

Harvey and Dolores lived in Detroit, Warren and Madison Heights, later moving to Cheboygan in 1971.  Many years ago he owned a Marathon station on Mackinaw Ave. in Cheboygan before working for Central Transport for many years.  In recent years, Harvey worked for Krug Rivertown Ford later purchased by and operated as Fernelius Ford.

Harvey’s faith was an important part of his life.  He led worship at Huron Street Tabernacle for many years prior to becoming an integral part in the formation of the Black River Full Gospel Church where he served both on the board and also on the worship team. Once Black River was well established, Harvey returned to the Tabernacle now known as Life Worship Center.

He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, boating and travel.  Harvey was also a sports fan who enjoyed following the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings.

Surviving are Dolores, his wife of almost 57 years; his sons, David Charboneau of Indian River and Dan (Erin) Charboneau of Cheboygan; grandchildren, Cassie, Lydia and Jared; sisters, Gayle Hawkes of Cheboygan and Janice (Gary) Shall of Charlotte; brother, Ralph (Sharon) Charboneau of Cheboygan, and many nieces and nephews.  Harvey was preceeded in death by his parents, Leon and Lillian and stepmother, Toni; sisters, Marion (Charboneau) Jackson and Carol (Charboneau) Soumis and brother Donald Charboneau.

A memorial service will be held at Black River Full Gospel Church, 2732 Orchard Beach Rd, Cheboygan, Michigan on May 20 at 11:00 AM.  A luncheon will follow.
