Gwin Blair Wiles Sr

Gwin Blair Wiles Sr., 85 of Vanderbilt, died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 30, 2014. Born in Wagoner, North Carolina on December 24, 1928, he was the son of Leonard and Ola (Hurley) Wiles.

In his youth, the family moved to Baldwin, Maryland where Gwin attended school. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946, where he served aboard the U.S.S. Missouri. Upon his discharge he returned home to York, Pennsylvania where the family had moved.

Gwin worked for many years at York Telephone which later became GTE. On February 2, 1982 he married Stephanie (Schmuck) Patterson. After retiring from GTE in 1991 they moved to Vanderbilt to be near his daughter, Deb and her family. Gwin was a quiet man who enjoyed the time he spent with family and tending to his gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie; sons, Gwin B. Wiles Jr., Leonard (Robin) Wiles, Thomas R. Wiles and David A. Wiles all of York, PA; his daughter, Debra (Blaise) Rivers of Gaylord; his step children, Brett (Donna “Susie”) Patterson of Dallastown, PA and Britt (Dwayne) Dillon of Brogue, PA; grandchildren, Tammy Wiles and Cody Rivers and step grandchildren, Tyler, Tearra and Breydon Dillon and Kyle Patterson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Wiles.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 850 North Center Avenue where visitation will begin at 1:00 PM. Interment with military honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Gaylord.
