Gerald “Jerry” Lee Bigelow, 83 of Wolverine, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 28, 2019.
Born in Corunna, Michigan on August 7, 1935, Jerry was the son of Loren and Frieda (Schneider) Bigelow. He grew up in Corunna, graduated from Western High School in Detroit and later attended the University of Michigan. Jerry also served in the United States Army from 1958-1961.
On April 9, 1955 Jerry married the love of his life, Joan Chalkley in Allen Park. They lived in Allen Park where they raised their family while Jerry worked at Ford Motor Company for 22 years as a distribution analyst. After retiring in 1991, Jerry and Joan moved north, eventually to Silver Lake in Wolverine, a place that is near and dear to them and has been a part of their lives for many years.
Jerry enjoyed his family and any opportunity to spend time with them. He enjoyed bicycling, fishing and vacationing in Florida. He and Joan were members of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Jerry is survived by Joan, his wife of 64 years; a daughter, Christine (Tom) Davis of Wolverine; a son, James (Jennifer) Bigelow of Howell; grandchildren, Brian, Shelby and Sam; a great grandson, Dakota; sisters, Carole and Nancy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob on July 6, 2019; a brother, Loren “Jack” and a sister, Mary “Babe”.
Jerry’s family will visit with friends from 3:00-8:00 PM Friday, August 2, 2019 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service and beginning at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gaylord where funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions in his memory to Trinity Lutheran Church.
