George W. Riness

George W. Riness, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and cherished friend, departed this world on April 22, 2025, in Gaylord, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy steeped in warmth and laughter. Born on January 4, 1959, in Cheboygan, Michigan, George was a steadfast presence in the lives of all who knew him. He lived a life rich with simple pleasures and the joy of family.

After dedicating 33 years of his life to M.E.C., where he worked diligently as a laborer crafting parts for cars, George retired but never really stepped away from what he loved most: the company of his family and friends. Always up for hanging out, his home was a hub of activity and friendship, where laughter and memories were made.

His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, each one unique and special in his eyes. He made it a point to share this sentiment with each grandchild individually, filling their hearts with a sense of belonging and importance. In his eyes, they were the jewels of his life, and being their grandfather brought him unparalleled happiness.

George had a zest for life that extended into his hobbies and interests. He found serenity in the great outdoors, whether he was fishing with his son Wesley or foraging for mushrooms. He enjoyed evenings with beers in hand, where laughter flowed freer than the drinks themselves. He loved dancing even though modest in his skills, but his heart would soar as he danced, embodying the joy that he found in life’s simplest moments.

He is survived by his three children, Debra Bissell of Gaylord, Wesley (Sara) Riness of Vanderbilt and Bernard Riness of Gaylord; four grandchildren, Ashley, Harley, Timothy and Dakota; five great-grandchildren, Miah, Ebony, Taylor, Justin and Hemi; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

A celebration of life gathering details will be announced soon.
