George J. Champagne

George J. Champagne, age 75 of Gaylord, formerly of Rochester Hills, passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 9, 2016. Born in Detroit on January 7, 1941, he was the son of Harold J. and Helen M. (Kinnunen) Champagne.

George enjoyed operating his hotel in Indian River, hunting and NASCAR. He also loved spending time in the Upper Peninsula.

Beloved husband of Charleen (Mattson) Champagne. Loving father of Keith (Cindy) Champagne of Fowlerville, Kimberly Champagne of Fowlerville and Lindsey Champagne of Gaylord. Grandfather of eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his daughter, Rachel Labatzky.

Visitation Sunday, March 13, 2016 from 1 to 6 p.m. with funeral services Monday, March 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at MacDonald’s Funeral Home, Howell (517-546-2800). Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Fowlerville. Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of your choice.
