Gaylord R. Alexander, 92 of Gaylord, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Medilodge. Born June 8, 1932, in Lansing, he was the son of Joseph Gaylord and Leona Henrietta (Brenke) Alexander.
Gaylord married the love of his life on August 29, 1953, Jane Amsbaugh. Together they had three children and created a beautiful life. He obtained his Master’s degree in fisheries from Michigan State University. He worked for the Michigan DNR for 42 years and spent the majority of his career at the Hunt Creek Trout Research Station in Lewiston where he oversaw dozens of trout research studies documenting them in scientific journals. Gaylord had a love of nature and spent his retirement in the out of doors planting trees, walking in the woods, fishing, hunting and teaching his grandchildren about nature.
He is survived by his three children, Stephen Alexander of Grand Rapids, Gayle (Ken) Allen of Gaylord and Eric (LouAnne) Alexander of Moran; grandchildren, Ryan (Samantha) Allen and Erica (Mitchell) Fox; great-grandchildren, Madilynn and Mackenzie Fox, Kain and Kaiya Allen; brothers and a sister, Howard Alexander, JoAnne (Larry) Burrill and Merton (Nancy) Alexander.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Jane in 2018.
