Gary L. Jewett

Gary L. Jewett, 77 of Indian River, passed away at home on Thursday, June 30, 2016.  Born and raised in Manistique, Gary was the son of Earl and Grace (Macritchie) Jewett.

A graduate of Manistique High School, Gary received his Bachelors Degree from Michigan Tech in 1961, his Masters Degree from Virginia Polytech in 1962 and his PhD in Chemistry from Iowa State University in 1966.

It was while working on his PhD that he met his future wife, Nancy Boyer.  They were married in Ames, IA on May 25, 1963.  Gary and Nancy moved to Midland where Gary spent a 30 year career as a chemist with Dow Chemical Company, retiring in 1995.

In retirement, Gary and Nancy moved to their Indian River home.  Gary was a member of the National Rifle Association and an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters Nicole, Katherine and Carina Jewett; a sister, Karen Frye and a brother, Stephen Jewett. Surviving are his wife, Nancy; two sons, Peter Jewett of Lansing and Michael Jewett of Maumee, OH and many nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Gary’s wishes, his family will remember him privately.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Leukemia Research Foundation or Hillsdale College.
