Frank C. Schalau, 90 of Gaylord, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Otsego Memorial Hospital.
Born in Lapeer, was the son of Edward and Anna (Bower) Schalau. Frank was a young man when he joined the United States Navy, serving his country honorably during World War II. He served aboard the USS Earl, a destroyer converted to a minesweeper.
With Frank’s work as a heavy equipment operator, he and his family lived in many communities. The last ten years of his career he worked as a millwright at General Motors.
After retiring, Frank and his wife, Christa, moved to Gaylord in 1989. He enjoyed playing golf, remaining active on a golf league until he was 87. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing
Frank is survived by his wife, Christa, they were married in 1973. Also surviving are his children, Brian (Cathy) Schalau of Levering; Diane Turnbull of Rochester and Mike (Connie) Schalau of Texas; his stepchildren, David Powers of Gaylord and Richard (Fimka) Powers of Macedonia; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Anna Bissett of New Baltimore; and several nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Schalau and several brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, June 1, 208 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where the family will visit with friends beginning at 11:00 AM.
