Ernest "Bud" Edwards

Ernest J.A. “Bud” Edwards, 90, a long time resident of Gaylord, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw. Born in Engadine, MI on February 21, 1922, he was the son of Arthur and Beatrice (Lawson) Edwards. Bud served in the United States Coast Guard. During World War II he served in the coastal waters of Texas and Louisiana. He lived and worked in the Birmingham, Utica and Waterford areas until 1952 when the family moved to Gaylord. Though retired from Standard Products in Gaylord, Bud did many things over the years to provide for his family. At one time or another he worked delivering gas, installing furnaces, remodeling homes, roofing and also farming. During the 1950’s and 60’s he sold Christmas trees which had grown on his property and he was also involved in the clearing of easements to take electricity to the Sparr area. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and woodworker who also enjoyed camping, boating, bowling and playing golf. An avid musician who loved music, Bud played the harmonica. He and his first wife, Mary Lou, who played the accordion and piano, enjoyed entertaining family and friends at various gatherings. He loved his family, and in later years he lived for the time he could spend with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He also loved and is survived by his beloved cat, Tigger. Bud was also a member of the Gaylord Eagles Club. He was preceded in death by three wives, Mary Lou, Catherine and Viola Edwards. Surviving are daughters Mary (Gene) House, Susan D. Edwards and Beatrice (John) Clements all of Gaylord; 12 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren and one brother, George Lake of Gaylord. He has many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law. In addition to his wives, Bud was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Edwards in 2010, 4 brothers and 1 sister. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Gaylord Funeral & Cremation Service, 850 North Center Ave., 989-732-2230, where memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or to the hospice organization of your choice through the funeral home.
