Eric Dean Hoxie, 26 of Ann Arbor and formerly of Gaylord, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 2nd after a courageous battle with synovial sarcoma. Born in Gaylord on April 27, 1988, Eric was the son of Brian D. and Mary K. (Youngman) Hoxie. A 2006 graduate of Gaylord High School, Eric played baritone and trombone in the band. Throughout his youth, he was an avid and successful deer hunter. He was an accomplished member of the track and cross country teams. Eric set a Gaylord High School record in the two mile run, a record that remains unbroken. Running continued to be a passion for Eric after high school and college. He participated in numerous 5k races, even in Japan.
Eric attended Lake Superior State University, graduating in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Eric was employed by Applied Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) in Lake Orion as a robotics engineer where he worked immediately following graduation. Eric enjoyed traveling to Asia, going to China for classes while at LSSU and to Japan with his brother to work and take in the japanese culture. Eric was a bright, ambitious young man. Even during his illness, he kept active, developing a code for his own euchre computer game dedicated to his family.
Eric's girlfriend, Brooke Ellis of Ann Arbor was by his side throughout his illness as were his parents, Brian and Mary Hoxie of Gaylord. His brother, Kevin and girlfriend, Rachael Foshag of Ann Arbor were also there to be with him. He is survived by his grandparents, Bill and Clarice Hoxie of Cedar, and Joe Kastner of Traverse City along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dean and Virginia Youngman and Marian Kastner.
Eric's family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 850 N. Center Avenue. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Gaylord First United Methodist Church, 215 S. Center Avenue where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Pastor Dan Bowman will officiate.
