Edwin Robert Kerr, 67 of St. Helen, passed away at home on Thursday, June 15, 2023.
Born in Dearborn, Michigan, he was the son of Richard and Edna (Carter) Kerr. Ed grew up in Taylor, where he graduated from Truman High School in 1973.
Just before graduating from high school, Ed went to work at Ford Motor Company. He worked in material handling, retiring in 2008 after 34 years.
Ed was enthusiastic about the outdoors. He enjoyed camping and fishing, and he was an avid competitive shooter. A lifelong member of the NRA, he was also a member of the Carleton Gun Club and Grayling Gun Club where he enjoyed shooting trap, skeet, and sporting clays.
On December 18, 2015, Ed was married to the former Katherine Knight, whom he had known for years. Ed and Kathy both enjoyed the outdoors and did nearly everything together. It was Ed’s dream to move up north, which they did with their move to St. Helen in 2021.
A man of honor and strong principles, he was often called “Eddie by the book” by family and friends. He will always be remembered as Kathy’s Best Friend and loving Husband, the Best Papa hands down to his 9 grandchildren, the best father to his Step kids and to his kids, and as a loving brother, brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle, nephew and friend.
Ed is survived by his wife, Kathy; his stepchildren, Cody (Christina) Schmidt of Romulus, and Holly (Brent) Hall of Taylor; his children, Eddie Jr. (Christie) Kerr of Riverview, and Jill (Chris) Klein of New Boston; Ed’s grandchildren, Gideon, Allison, Grace and Luke Schmidt, Bryson and Montana Hall, Jeffrey Lizewski, and Samantha and Cole Kerr; Ed’s sister, Barbara (John) Brown of West Branch; a nephew, John (Daynah) Brown; nieces, Rachel Brown, Wendy (Dave) Stevens, and Cindy (Scott) Bollinger; great nieces Brooke and Roslyn Brown; his uncle, Don (Marie) Kerr; and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his wonderful parents Richard and Edna Kerr.
Arrangements for a celebration of Ed’s life are pending and will follow soon. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan., 830 S. Otsego Ave., 49735.
