Edward W "Ed" Shear

Edward W. “Ed” Shear, 49 of Gaylord, died on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. Born on September 6, 1964 in Pontiac, Ed was the son of Walter and Joan (Grieve) Shear. A longtime Waterford resident, he moved to Gaylord in 2001. Ed was a technician for AT&T, where he had worked since 1993. His work took him all over northern Michigan. Ed was a member of St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord. He was devoted to his family, enjoyed spending time with them and being a hockey dad. Ed enjoyed spending time at and working on his cabin near Grayling. He is survived by his wife, the former Holly Burling, who he married on September 24, 1988 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Pontiac. Also surviving are his children, Sarah Shear of Johannesburg and Nicholas, Morgan and Hannah Shear, all living at home; his parents, Walter and Joan Shear of Petoskey; brothers, Walter (Nancy) Shear of Boyne City and Robert Shear of Petoskey; a sister in law, Patricia Shear of Houston, TX; several nieces and nephews and longtime friend Dan (Vera) Easton of Waterford. He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Shear. Visitation at Gaylord Community Funeral Home, 850 North Center Avenue, will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 PM where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 7, 2013 at St. Mary Cathedral, 606 North Ohio Street with Rev. James Bearss, Celebrant. Visitation at the church will begin at 10:00 AM on Monday. A luncheon will follow at the St. Mary Parish Hall and a family committal service at Loud Township Cemetery will be held later in the day. Those who wish are asked to make memorial contributions to the family for an organization to be decided upon later. Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home.

Gaylord Community Funeral Home, 850 North Center Avenue, will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 PM where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 PM & 10:00 AM on Monday, October 7, 2013 at St. Mary Cathedral, 606 North Ohio Street

11:00 AM on Monday, October 7, 2013 at St. Mary Cathedral, 606 North Ohio Street with Rev. James Bearss, Celebrant
