Edith "Lorraine" Norton

Edith “Lorraine” Bennett Norton, 81 of Gaylord, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Aspen Ridge Retirement Village, with her family by her side.

Born in Wolverine on August 1, 1933, Lorraine was the daughter of Hugh and Alice (Ealy) Babcock. A lifelong area resident, Lorraine worked as a caregiver at the former TB Sanitarium which later became the Alpine Center and at Tendercare Gaylord. Not only was she a faithful employee, but she made wonderful friendships that lasted throughout her life. Later she worked at and retired from Kmart in Gaylord.

Lorraine will be remembered by her family as being a great cook and seamstress. She enjoyed her work as a caregiver, and in her younger years she also enjoyed dancing and hunting. Lorraine was a cat lover and a member of the Humane Society. She enjoyed attending the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church and Bible Study.

Surviving are her daughter, Diane (Dan) Wagar of Gaylord; grandchildren, Daniel D. Wagar of San Diego, CA and Lorin Ashley (Jason) Daigle of Jackson, WY; the four stepchildren she helped raise, Denise Hewitt and Gregory, Marc and Dean Norton; sisters, Stella Conant of Marshall, Karen (Glen) Alexander of Wolverine and Susan (Ralph) Sherman of Wolverine; and a sister-in-law, Rose Edna Babcock of Wolverine. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dwain Babcock, a brother and sister-in-law, Boyd and Kathy Babcock; a brother-in-law, Fred Conant and a sibling, baby Babcock.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 until 2:30 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM. Burial will be on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Silver Lake Cemetery in Wolverine.
