E. Marie Sloan, 93 of Wolverine, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. Born July 29, 1930, in Wolverine, the daughter of Edward and Lillian (Blanch) Ealy.
Marie was a very active member of the Wolverine Congregational Church for over 60 years, serving in many capacities. She was the leader of the teen youth group for several years and was passionate about that ministry. She often spoke about how close that was to her heart, many years later. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her wonderful homemade bread. She was always learning, experimenting, and creating new recipes.
Marie was the cashier, clerk, and bookkeeper for the family auction business and farm. She was a tractor driver, cook, errand runner, cattle chaser, record keeper, seamstress and doctor. Most of all she was Mom, Grandma, Aunt, and Friend to so many people. Later in life she was elected Nunda Township Clerk and served for almost 30 years, until her retirement in 2020. She enjoyed getting to know local people as part of that job.
She is survived by her children, Ada Sloan, Daniel Sloan, Nancy (Bob) Kimball Sloan all of Wolverine and John (Penny) Sloan of Roscommon; several loving grandchildren, Matthew Crawford, Andrew (Stephanie) Crawford, Amy (Todd) Jones, Tansy Sloan, Tracey Sloan, Jacob Rutland, Miles Rutland and Christopher (Jaime) Kimball; many special great-grandchildren, Jordan Crawford, Aiden Sherman, Vincent Sherman, Emma Jean Jones, Emilee Burrow, Megan Beard and Michael Kimball; sisters and a brother, Alberta Dunham, Shirley (Joe) Seefried, Hazel (Gerry) Flickinger and Bill (Dorcas) Ealy; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, of 72 years, Stan Sloan; her parents, Edward and L. Blanch Ealy; her brother, Ernest Ealy; her sisters, Elaine Dunham and Iola Bennet.
Services will take place at the Wolverine Congregational Church, 5830 W. Main St., Wolverine, with visitation on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wolverine Congregational Church Endowment Fund. Please share your memories and personal messages with the family on her guestbook below.
