Duane “Mickey” Williams, 84 of Gaylord, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 at McLaren Northern Michigan. Born on May 17, 1933 in Yale, he was the son of Boyne and Zaidee (English) Williams.
Mickey graduated from Peck High School in 1951 and that fall entered Eastern Michigan University on a football scholarship. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Estes during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1956. Upon being discharged from the military, he returned to Eastern and obtained his bachelor degree in accounting. For 28 years, he worked for General Motors as an accountant. Mickey was an avid sports fan, enjoyed hunting, playing golf and loved socializing with friends. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #489 in Peck, Gaylord Fraternal Order of Eagles #1825 and Allen Park Fraternal Order of Eagles #5572.
On November 7, 1959 in Richmond, MI, he married Joyce Winkel, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Teri (Robert) Hohentanner of Novi, Patricia (Greg) Moore of Comstock Park and Cindi (Princess) Williams-Benson of New Hudson; four loving grandchildren, Scott, Jesse, Brian and Natalie; his sister, Kay Smith of Gaylord and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Charles Thomas and his brothers, Charles and Cecil.
A memorial gathering will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service with military honors. A luncheon will follow at the Gaylord Eagles.
