Doris L. Wallis, 84 of Johannesburg, passed away at Otsego Memorial Hospital on Thursday, July 16, 2015. Born in Morgantown, West Virginia on October 25, 1930, Doris was the daughter of Melton D. and Helen M. (Wilkus) Brown.

Doris was married to Elwyn J. “Al” Wallis. He was a Detroit Police Officer and she a legal secretary. After retiring, they moved to their Johannesburg home in the mid 1970’s. Al preceded her in death in 1981.

Doris worked for more than 30 years at the Johannesburg Library and was well known to others as an area historian. She wrote a book about Johannesburg’s history, which is available at the library. In 2013, Doris was the Grand Marshal of the Johannesburg Fourth of July Parade.

She enjoyed craftwork, especially knitting and crocheting. She spent hours making items that she donated to schools, veterans organizations, for RSVP raffles and other fundraisers. She had an active mind and a keen sense of humor. Doris remained active in various area senior organizations throughout her later years.

Doris is survived by step sons, Paul and Eric Wallis and their families; her close friends and neighbors, Russell and Diane Sheroski and other friends.

In keeping with her wishes, following cremation, interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Sandusky, Michigan.

Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions in her memory to the charity of their choice.
