Donna M. Schaeffer

Donna M. Schaeffer, 93 of Roscommon, passed away at home at The Brook in Roscommon on Friday, November 29, 2024.

Born in Grayling, she was the daughter of Henry and Bertha (Leline) Scott. Donna grew up in Grayling and was a graduate of Gerrish-Higgins High School.

On November 18, 1950, Donna married Richard C. Schaeffer. They were longtime residents of Roscommon, where they owned Little Richards Bar. Later moving to the Upper Peninsula, they owned IGA Supermarkets in Curtis and Manistique. At one time Donna also worked at General Telephone and the Crawford County Register of Deeds office.

After retiring, Donna and Richard moved to Gaylord, where he preceded her in death on July 25, 2017. 

Donna is survived by her six children, The Reverend Richard C. Schaeffer of Gaylord, Alan (Robin Hosking) Schaeffer of Roscommon, John (Cherie) Schaeffer of Roscommon, Roberta (David) Hodges of St. Ignace, Michael Schaeffer of St. Ignace, and Eric (Michele) Schaeffer of St. Ignace; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Harold Scott of Roscommon, and Howard (Janice) Scott of Holly; a sister, Patricia Shiel of Roscommon; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband, Richard, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Eula Elliott; a brother, Richard Scott; daughters-in-law, Barbara Schaeffer and Jill Schaeffer; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 7, 2024, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Roscommon where visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place in the spring at Pioneer Cemetery in South Branch Township.
