Donald H. Churches

Donald H. Churches, 86 of Gaylord and formerly of Wolverine, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Tendercare Gaylord.

Born in Ann Arbor, MI on December 26, 1929, Don was the son of Harry E. and Estelle L. (Cain) Churches.

From 1953-1955 Don served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Shortly after being discharged from the Army, he married Shirley Ann Nichols on July 23, 1955.

Don worked in construction as a brick layers mason tender most of his career.  Don and Shirley lived in Pinckney for many years and for a few years in Heartland.  In 1992 they moved to Gaylord and eventually to Wolverine.

Don was an avid fisherman, he enjoyed gardening, cooking and going for rides in the car.  He loved his family and enjoyed any opportunity to be together with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley on June 4, 2016.  He is survived by his children, Gary (Donna) Churches of Vanderbilt, Donny (Karen) Churches of Unidilla, Glenda (Jim Cook) Churches of Ann Arbor and Julia (Gary) Micoff of Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; sisters, Mae Wallace of Hamburg, Evelyn March of Pinckney and Sharlene Wheeler of East Jordan; a brother, Ed (Zedan) Churches of Gaylord; and many nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by sisters, Genevieve Euler and Janet Emmons and a brother, David Churches.

Don’s family will visit with friends from 5:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 25, 2016.  Visitation will begin on Friday at 10:00 AM.  A spring burial will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Vanderbilt in the spring.
