Donald H. Brandt, 69 of Gaylord, passed away at home on April 6, 2016.  Born in Kalamazoo on October 26, 1946, Don was the son of Herbert and Margaret (Sweet) Brandt.

Don grew up in Kalamazoo where he graduated from Portage Central High School.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and returned to Kalamazoo after his honorable service.  He attended Western Michigan University, graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Wilderness Biology.

After leaving Kalamazoo, Don lived in Manistee and Bay City, working in the gas & oil industry for Shell, which was later purchased by Merit Energy.  He moved with the company to Gaylord several years ago.

Don was an avid fisherman, particularly enjoying walleye and Northern Pike fishing.  He also enjoyed Elk hunting in Colorado, playing golf and ballroom dancing.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Amy L. Arthur.  Surviving are his sisters, Patricia (Al) McDonald of Kalamazoo and Linda (Terry) Voigt of Spartanburg, SC; his brother, John (Cathleen) Brandt of Richland; his son-in-law, David Arthur and granddaughter, Emma Arthur both of Boston, MA; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:00–11:00 AM on Friday, June 3rd at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, where a memorial service to celebrate Don’s life will be held beginning at 11:00AM. Interment with full military honors will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
