Donald E. Putman Sr., 91 of Gaylord, fell asleep in death on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Charlevoix Area Hospital. Born on August 25, 1923 in Gaylord, Don was the son of George Adelbert and Josephine (Wallington) Putman.
As a young man, Don entered the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He served with E Company, 344th Battalion in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. After returning home to Gaylord, Don met Lena Duchoski. They were married in Gaylord on November 9, 1946. He worked for 33 years at Standard Products in Gaylord, retiring in 1986. Also a skilled mechanic, Don enjoyed working on cars.
Don is survived by Lena, his wife of 68 years; a son, Donald E. (Susan) Putman Jr. of Gaylord; a daughter, Tammie Lee (Lance) Tuggle of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Joshua (Jodi) Putman of Big Rapids, Abby (Jared) Davis of Gaylord, James Tuggle and Marcus Tuggle both of Seattle, WA; and great grandchildren, Isabella Davis and Alexander Putman. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harvey Putman and Newton Putman.
Don’s family will visit with friends from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 850 North Center Avenue. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Gaylord.
