Dolores P. Slocum, 83 of Gaylord, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey. Born on January 24, 1931 in Detroit, she was the daughter of Harvey and Jennie (Nuytten) Labadie. While living in Ohio, Dolores was visiting in Harbor Springs when she met George W. Slocum. They were married in Harbor Springs on December 17, 1955. The family lived down state for several years and moved to Gaylord from Armada, MI in 1971. A homemaker in recent years, Dolores worked for several years at the former Dawn Donuts in Gaylord. She was an avid gardener and also enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Her family will remember her as a gifted artist who could draw or paint almost anything. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Slocum in 2010 and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Donald (Lisa) Slocum of Dunellen, FL, David (Julie) Slocum of Sedalia, MO, Dianne (Marty) Damer of Gaylord, George S. Slocum of Davison, Michael Slocum (Shelly) of Holly and Lesa (Kelly) Patrick of Gaylord; grandchildren, Dan, Jon, Jill, Amanda, Kayla, Kylie, Dustin, Nathan, Genny, Andrew, Bryan, Alicia and Ashley; 7 great grandchildren; and a sister, Francis Allen of Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 850 North Center Avenue where funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM with Rev. John Naile officiating. Interment will be at Hayes Township Cemetery. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to her family.
