Dennis William Standen

Dennis William Standen, 81 of Gaylord, passed away Friday, December 20, 2024, at home.

Born June 26, 1943, in Rogers City, Dennis was the son of William and Valderine (DuBois) Standen. He grew up in Rogers City, where he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Kasuba, on November 23, 1963.

Dennis served in the U.S. Navy for almost four years. He and Janet lived in Virginia during those years. Later, while he was attending Michigan Tech, they lived in Houghton. Throughout his career in engineering, they lived in Holland, MI, Auburn, WA, then Berkley and Hastings, MI. In 2015 they moved to Gaylord.

Dennis and Janet attended the Gaylord Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and leather work, gardening, and jewelry wrapping, making beautiful pieces from various stones. He was also an avid genealogist, enjoying spending hours tracing his family’s history.

Dennis is survived by Janet, his wife of 61 years; his four daughters, Michelle (Martin) Walsh of Grand Rapids, Pamela Standen of Mesa, AZ, Renee (Sean) Halloran of Royal Oak, and Nicolle (David) Auquier of Berkley; grandchildren, Mikaela (Garrett) Hoppes of Grand Rapids, Rylei (Micah) Davis of Indianapolis, IN, Mackenzie Auquier of Berkley, Luke Auquier of Berkley, and Emilie Halloran of Royal Oak. Also surviving are brothers, Donald (Connie) Standen of Rogers City, Richard (Jennifer) Standen of Posen; a sister, Patricia Major of Royal Oak, and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Val Standen; grandchildren, Ean, Clair, Gavin, and Conor Halloran; a sister, Pamela Standen; and a brother-in-law, Keith Major.

A memorial celebration of his life is planned for next summer. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions in his memory to Hospice of Michigan.
