DeEtta Dowker Myers

DeEtta Dowker Myers, 92 of Gaylord, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Aspen Ridge Retirement Village. Born in Bellaire on August 26, 1924, DeEtta was the daughter of William and Irene (Osborne) Wiggins. She was married to Robert (Bob) Dowker in 1944. They were married for 41 happy years until Bob was taken by cancer in 1986.

De worked as a secretary, bookkeeper, payroll clerk, and office manager for 30 years. 17 of those 30 years she was employed by the superintendent’s office of Johannesburg and Gaylord schools.

De remarried in 1991, five years after the passing of Bob, to Gerald (Jerry) Myers.  Jerry was a wonderful man and very special to her and her family.  They were married for 17 years until Jerry’s passing in 2009.

De always said that if she had to do all over again, she could never find family or friends as dear as the ones she was blessed with all her years.  She reported many times how lucky she was to have had two of the best husbands possible and sons to match. Bob and De had three boys.  She loved them and their families with all her heart.

She is survived by Robert Wayne (Jeanette), David (Anita), and Clark (Dawn) Dowker; grandchildren, Jamie, Kevin, Chad, Heather, Janene, Allison, Christina, Amy, Timothy and Theresa; great-grandchildren, Cierra, Victoria, Nicholas, Desiree, Hailey and Aaron.

Some special friends who have known her most of her life include Tom and Vera Fahlstrom and Frank and Eileen Fox. In later years, some of her special friends were Janet Weber, Renee Pagel and Myrna Lawless.  She will be greatly missed by all those that knew her and the lives she touched.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Rev. John Naile officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30AM until the time of services. Burial will take place in the spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Johannesburg.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society in memory of her husband, Bob Dowker.
