Dean W. Nordberg

Dean W. Nordberg, 72 of Dafter, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.

Born on October 24, 1942 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Dean was the son of Warren and Irene (Corbeil) Nordberg.

Dean proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. He loved spending time with his family and making lasting memories with his grandchildren. He enjoyed taking pictures, mentoring troubled teens, seeing the best in people and most of all, giving hugs. On December 25, 2007, Dean retired from the Department of Corrections as a lieutenant. Upon retirement, he enjoyed traveling and bird watching from his front window.

On July 12, 1997 in Dafter, Dean married the love of his life, Cheryl “Spring” Johnson who survives. Also surviving are his two children, Lynnea Nordberg of Wyoming, MI and Brent (Tru) Nordberg of Petersfield Manitoba, Canada; two step children, Heidi (Kurt) Sparkman of St. Joseph, MI and Daniel (Courtney) Winberg of Sterling Heights, MI; grandchildren, Ashly, Nicholas, Matthew, Nathan, Dillyn and Tyler; great grandson, Raylan; sisters, Colette (Charlie) Welch of Gilford, NH, Karen (Ed) Hanson of Oviedo FL, and Virginia Nordberg of Maplewood, NJ. He is also survived by Kevin Wilternik, Karolynn Tuttle-Meinke, Karla Tuttle-Wickerham, Kathy Jo Tuttle-Butgereit and their children whom he considered his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather (Edgar F. Jansen).
