David Wilson Brown, 75 of Gaylord, passed away Sunday evening at Hiland Cottage Hospice House in Petoskey with several family members comforting him at his bedside.
From two marriages, David was a father to five sons; James 52 of Bloomington, IN, Brian 49 of Gaylord, MI, Brett 46 of Margate, FL, Eric (deceased) and Ryan 30 of Grand Rapids, MI. He was a father in-law to both Kim and Tammy; a grandfather to Jamie Schutt, Jessica Kruger and Briana, Rebecca, and Merina Brown; and a great-grandfather, aka “PopPop” to Eva Marie, Lily-Jean, Charlotte, CJ, Drake, and Penelope. David also had two brothers Ronald Brown, Russell Brown a dear sister, Susan Beaudin.
By land, David had enjoyed fine autos such as 1960s Lincolns and Corvettes. By sea, David enjoyed sailing on one pontoon with his Hobie Cat.
When away from a car or boat, David found pleasures in the “simple things in life.” One of those simple pleasures was with his colorful teddy bears and Beanie Baby collection that had personalities when he shared them.
David was effortless in his ability to socially engage and build rapport with nearly anyone. David Brown will be remembered for his compassion, gentleness, and uniqueness. He will also be remembered by providing his sons with the lessons of seeing the good in people and not worrying about things one cannot control. These qualities gave him a soft soulfulness that was undeniable and will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where the family will gather with friends beginning at 2:00 PM. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to McLaren Hospice, Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.
