David E. Laginess, 78 of Johannesburg, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey.
Born on November 6, 1940 in Detroit, he was the son of Gerald and Rosalie (Russell) Laginess. David grew up in Allen Park and attended Melvindale Schools where he graduated in 1958.
Following high school, he attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, graduating in 1962 with a Bachelors Degree in Biology. David worked for a time at Lafayette Clinic in Detroit and at Upjohn in Kalamazoo before joining Ford Motor Company-Division of Body & Assembly. He worked in Compensation & Benefits, retiring in 1996 after more than 31 years of service.
On October 5, 1963, David married his high school sweetheart, Sandra A. Lattimore at the First Presbyterian Church in Trenton; they were married nearly 56 years. They lived for a few years in Southgate before moving to Temperance where they raised their family. They moved to Johannesburg to Big Bass Lake in 1999.
David was a member of Gaylord First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling both with the family when his children were young and with Sandy in retirement. He enjoyed bowling, was an avid woodworker and he enjoyed following the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. David also had an appreciation for music and theatre.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; and his children, Fred (Anita) Laginess of Monclova, OH and Julie (David) Moon of Manchester, MI.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the Gaylord First United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monroe County.
