David Brian Black, 59 of Gaylord passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Dave was born in Highland Park, Michigan on April 28, 1964, to Clifford Dale Black and Jeanette Elaine (Dobat) Black. In 1972 the family moved to Gaylord, where Dave was a 1982 graduate of Gaylord High School.
Dave was furthering his education part-time when he decided to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He served his country for a year and a half, then returned home, and worked in the manufacturing industry. Dave loved adventures and soon went on to pursue a degree in archeology. He earned his Master’s in Archeology/Anthropology from Western Michigan University. After a time spent in California working in the archeology field, Dave returned home to help out his family. He spent the rest of his time working in manufacturing, but never gave up on his dream of working full time as an archeologist. Dave loved going to the casino and loved taking road trips. He loved his family and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Dale Black, who passed away in 2012.
Dave is survived by his mother, Jeanette Black; his sisters, Elizabeth Black-Mench (Louis) and Susan Roundy; nephews, Jesse (Alice) Mench, Joseph Mench, Daniel Mench, Nolan Roundy; and two great nephews, Mason, and Liam Mench.
