Darrell Adam Slagle, 82 of Vanderbilt, passed away at home on Sunday, January 26, 2020 surrounded by his family.
Born in Elmira Township on May 2, 1937, Darrell was the son of Joseph and Violet (Frazee) Slagle. He lived for a number of years in Saginaw before moving to Albuquerque, later returning to Michigan and settling in Vanderbilt.
He served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy from 1954-1959. For most of his career, Darrell worked as a foreman in a foundry. An avid woodworker, he also enjoyed motorcycles and visiting area casinos.
Darrell is survived by his wife, the former Karen (Reardon) Berry; they were married in Gaylord on September 19, 1998. Also surviving are his children, Shannon (Robert) Casper of Albuquerque, NM, Tomi Slagle of Midland, TX, Richard (Laura) Berry of Vanderbilt, Rachal Berry of Vanderbilt and Jeff Berry of Bancroft; nine grandchildren; a sister, Berginia Love of Grayling; and many nieces and nephews, whom he teased relentlessly and loved immensely.
The family will visit with friends from 11:30 AM-1:00 PM Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Compassus Hospice.
