Danny Edward “Ed’ Churches, 74 of Gaylord, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
Born in Brighton, Michigan on May 28, 1946, he was the son of Harry Edward and Lucille Esther (Cain) Carpenter.
He served his country for four years in the U.S. Army. Most of his life, Ed was professional carpenter. He was skilled in both rough and finished carpentry and he built most of the homes he lived in.
Also a skilled mechanic and professional tinkerer, he was always looking for his next project. He built and raced cars for many years and he always had a classic car that he enjoyed working on.
An adventurous outdoorsman, he loved fishing, morel mushroom hunting, training hounds for raccoon hunting, deer hunting and exploring every back road he could find. He was a jokester who enjoyed spending time with his family; camping, singing and strumming on his guitar and enjoying a beer or his homemade wine around a campfire. With his wife, Zenny, whom he married in 2015, he especially enjoyed gardening, fishing, mushroom picking and going to garage sales.
In addition to his wife Zenaida “Zenny”; Ed is survived by his children, Danny Edward II, Teressa, Ginger, and Edward Churches; grandchildren, Danny III, Christopher, Matthew, Selena, Vicente, Isabella, Greyson and Bailee; and six great grandchildren. To most of his family, he was known as “Uncle Ed” and he was a second father figure to many of his nieces, nephews and grandkids. He will be remembered as a genuine, stand up guy with a caring and giving heart.
In keeping with his wishes, his family will remember him with a private family gathering later.
