Daniel H Casler

Daniel H. Casler, 63 of Gaylord, died at home on Monday, December 17, 2012. Born on December 18, 1948 in Corunna, MI, Dan was the son of A.B. and Opal (Powers) Casler. The family lived in Corunna and in Florida before moving to Alpena when Dan was a child. He was a 1967 graduate of Alpena High School. Dan graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in social work and pursued master’s degree classes at Grand Valley State University. Dan worked for several years in area restaurants. He will be remembered by many people as “Dan the bread man” for his baking and distribution of homemade breads in the area for years, often as many as 800 loaves a week. For the last 20 years he worked with his wife, Kathy, at their home daycare center. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. On August 6, 1985, Dan married Kathy S. Gauthier and she survives. Also surviving is a daughter Rebecca (Corey) Bartreau of Sparks, NV and grandchildren Tanner and Ethan Bartreau; a sister, Mary Woods of Alpena; his twin brother, James M. Casler of Alpena; mother and fathers-in-law Larry and Rosalie Sauls of Lachine and Dale Sr. and Carol Gauthier of Lovells; sisters-in-law Debra (Kent) Schupp of Fairborn, OH, Goldie (Bill) Scott of Fife Lake and Heidi Miller of Lovells; brothers-in-law Dale (Charlene) Gauthier of Lovells and John Miller of Port Huron as well as several nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Harris. Services for Dan will be held at 1:00 P.M. FRIDAY, December 21, 2012 at Gaylord Funeral & Cremation Service, 850 North Center Ave. with Pastor Gary Biggs from Landmark Baptist Church in Petoskey officiating. Visitation at the funeral home will be held on FRIDAY beginning at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Gaylord.
