Curtis Charles Boyd, 63 of Vanderbilt, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024, at home.
Born in Gaylord, Michigan on March 27, 1961, he was the son of Donald and Barbara (Pascoe) Boyd. He grew up in Vanderbilt and was a 1979 graduate of Vanderbilt High School.
Always motivated to work, Curt started out as a line chef at Big Boy and then BJ’s Restaurant before going to work at Thunder Mountain. Later working primarily in trucking and delivery, Curt worked at Dean’s Dairy, Beckman’s and at Quigley Companies. His last work was as a bus driver for the Otsego County Bus System. Perhaps his favorite job, he especially enjoyed driving school kids. Known as “Mr. Bus Driver”. He loved the kids and took keeping them safe very personally.
Curt will be remembered for his 36 years of service to the Vanderbilt/Corwith Township Fire Department, where he was a firefighter and longtime Chief, a job previously held by his father, and now held by his son, Jon.
In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. His family and friends will always remember his great BBQ’s! His favorite times were those spent with his kids and grandkids, all of whom have enjoyed their own special bond with him.
Curt is survived by his children, Andrea Bozeman of Vanderbilt, Mathew (Amber) Boyd of Gaylord, Sara (J.T.) Loar-Mitchell of Vanderbilt, and Jonathan (Kelsey) Boyd of Vanderbilt; grandchildren, Jamison (Stink) and Jayden (Cheeks) Bozeman, Charlee (Up-Chuck) and Emily (Mashed ‘Tater) Boyd, and Asher (Pork Chop) Loar-Mitchell all of Vanderbilt; and his sister, Mary Ann Hartley of Lansing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Barbara Boyd.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 PM Friday, July 5, 2024, at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, where visitation will begin at 4:30 PM. A procession with a firefighter escort to Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Vanderbilt will follow.
Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
