Clara Webster, 85 of Brutus, passed away at Bay Bluffs in Harbor Springs on Wednesday, January 24, 2018.
Born in Brutus on August 17, 1932, Clara was the daughter of Carl and Frieda (Wurst) Sydow.
Clara lived in Brutus for most of her life and she was a graduate of Pellston High School. In her early years she lived in Plainwell, Michigan for a time and worked for an insurance company. After returning to Brutus, she worked for many years at Johan’s Bakery in Petoskey. Later Clara worked as a dietary aide at the Emmet County Medical Care Facility, now known as Bay Bluffs, from where she retired. In retirement she worked at the Friendship Centers in Alanson and Pellston. Clara was an avid gardener and reader. She also enjoyed playing scrabble and cribbage, playing both nearly every day until her failing eyesight no longer permitted it.
On April 2, 1955, she married Clyde Webster in Brutus. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Surviving are her children, Ruth (Glenn) Belyea of Harrisville, Bruce (Debbie) Webster of White Pigeon, Barb (Arlen) Welty of Bristol, IN and Nancy (Romeo) Salar of Brutus; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Laura MacDonald of Grand Rapids and Elsie Sydow of Brutus; brothers, Carl (Marsha) Sydow and Marvin Sydow both of Brutus; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Clara was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Cleven and brothers, Adolph, Harold, Albert and Richard Sydow.
A family memorial gathering will be held later at Maple River Township Cemetery.
