Christine L. Affendikis, 88 of Petoskey, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey. Born on November 19, 1927 in Posen, she was the daughter of Daniel and Emily (Michalek) Miller.
Christine grew up in the Detroit area and was a graduate of Pershing High School. She attended Wayne State University, graduating with an Associate’s Degree. Beginning at age 15, she was a model for Ford, Oldsmobile and several retail stores in Detroit. In 1953 she married Sam S. Affendikis who was a Michigan State Police Trooper. They moved to Petoskey in 1959. Christine loved antiques and was the owner of The Northern Peddler Antique Shop. She also worked as the bookkeeper at Boyne Highlands and she was in charge of ticket sales at Nubs Nob. Later she joined the Little Harbor Club staff in Harbor Springs where she worked for 25 years, retiring in 2002 as the assistant secretary and treasurer to the Board of Governors.
She was a member of St. Francis Church and the Altar Society. For several years Christine served as the northern Michigan correspondent for the Michigan State Police newsletter and she was a member of the MSP wives club. For many years she was active in the Winter Sports Club in Petoskey and she had served as the chairperson for the Michigan Winter Sports Queens Pageant. Christine was also a member of the Petoskey Speed Skating Club. In addition to collecting antiques she was an accomplished seamstress and she enjoyed travel and camping.
Christine was preceded in death by her former husband, Sam S. Affendikis with whom she remained good friends and an infant son, Sammy Affendikis. Surviving are her children, Robert (Scott) Affendikis, Tina M. (Scott) Koontz, Maria A. (Steven) Kalapos and Andrew N. (Bentley) Affendikis; grandchildren, James D. Wolf III, Zoe Ann Kalapos, Ian Joseph Kalapos, Madeline Catherine Affendikis, Nicholas Andrew Affendikis and Hunter Keso; one great grandson, Xander Augustus Taylor and brothers, Larry (Diane) Pulaskey and James (Mary Lou) Pulaskey.
Christine’s family will remember her privately with a family memorial gathering later.
