Charles L. Chewning, 84 of Vanderbilt, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. Born on August 4, 1934, he was the son of Floyd and Julia (Murphy) Chewning.
Charlie proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years. He worked for Ford Motor Company for over 30 years. Upon retirement in 1999, he and his wife, Toni moved to Vanderbilt where he loved to hunt, fish, bowl, golf and snowmobile. He loved working in his shop doing woodwork. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Toni. Also surviving are his children, Bill McIntosh, Cathy (Kim) Smith, Charlene Koslakiewicz and step-son, Kevin (Kelly) Grace; daughter-in-law, Tina Thomas; grandchildren, Angela, Christina, Aubrianna, Danielle, David, Jacob, Jesse and Destiny; great-grandchildren, Leona, Gushie, Christopher, Kaden, Addison, Atlas and Zack.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Chewning, eight brothers and sisters, Harold, Dick, Woody, Eugene, Curt, Carl, Buzz, June, Neva; and a son-in-law, John Koslakiewicz.
A memorial service will take place at the Vanderbilt Community Church with Pastor John Bifoss officiating. The time and date of service is incomplete at this time and will be updated on the funeral home website. In lieu of flowers, those who wish are asked to make memorial contributions to Compassus Hospice.
