Charles B. Averill, 62 of Alba, passed away at home on Saturday, January 31, 2015. Born in Garden City, MI on September 12, 1952, Charles was the son of Bryce and Doris (Orrison) Averill.
Raised in Chino, CA, he did foundry work in California. It was in California that he met Helena S. Kist. They moved to Traverse City in 1987 and were married in Cement City, MI on February 29, 1988. In 1989 they moved to Alba.
For about 10 years Charles worked at Kitchen Farms in Elmira, until his health required an early retirement. He was an avid history buff and enjoyed camping and traveling.
Charles is survived by Lena, his wife of almost 27 years; a daughter, Lorena M. (Rusty) Bodnar of Okemos; sons, Dakota J. (Brittany) Averill of Fairfax, VA, Gerald B. (Karina) Averill of Central Lake and David B. (Chelsea) Averill of Lander, WY; grandchildren, Gabriel, Ethan, Elaina, Charles, Bianca and Audrey; a sister, Karen S. (Jim) Ekdahl of Mossy Rock, WA, a brother, Bryce S. (Mary) Averill of Renton, WA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Karalynn Miranda and Karen Forsythe and a brother, Arnold Averill.
A memorial gathering will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Alba Sportsman’s Club, 5225 C.R. 620. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan or to the Averill Family.
